I must admit, I didn't go through any special fanfare when asking my bridesmaids to be a part of my wedding. I was clueless and had no idea that it was a growing trend to make a big deal about it! I just thought I should 1) ask them in person and 2) be sincere about it. And that's all I did! No custom cards, no special party thrown... and I wish I could do it all over again! I wish I would have thrown them a little get-together, given them a little gift, and told them all how much they mean to me as my best friends in the world.

Now, you don't have to do anything more than what I did originally. It's fine to just ask them! But, if you're looking for something to make the asking a bit more sentimental, you could give your friends one of these cards from Oh Joy! Studio:
{Blooms & Birds; Cheerful Blossoms}
Oh Joy! Studios actually created these cards for The Dessy Group and can be purchased here.

How is it more sentimental to give a card that someone else wrote than asking them yourself in person? I mean, the cards are cute, but I'm pretty sure it's more meaningful to do it the way you did. So why waste the money?
Hi Anonymous,
Thanks for reading my blog! I appreciate your comment.
Whether or not something is "sentimental" is subjective and everyone is going to have a different opinion about what is sentimental/not sentimental. I agree, it is perfectly fine to ask your bridesmaids in person without a card or a party or a gift. What I was trying to convey in my post was that, at the time I was engaged, I didn't know that other brides were making "the asking" a big production. I didn't know I could get creative and make a big deal out of it if I so desired. Even if a card wouldn't have meant more to them than my verbal request, I would have liked to make a bigger deal out of it than I did. But that's just me!
Bottom line, do what you think your bridesmaids would appreciate. Card or no card!
What a cute idea! I wish I could of done that too! I just did what you did and asked in person..LOL
That's so funny you posted this! I made my own cards with these cute little stickers and antiqued paper. But I also asked the girls over the phone or in person before. It was just an extra touch ;)
