Spring Makeup Trends

For the Spring bride, there are some great makeup trends out there right now to flatter every complexion.

If you have an olive skin tone, go for a golden glow, like Jessica Alba here.

Olive skin tones are best complimented with a peach blush or bronzer, and a mauve lip color. Simple and romantic.

If your skin tone is fair, use a glimmering champagne eye shadow and a pink blush. Try a bright pink lipstick, like Pink Nouveau by MAC, for that wow factor.

For dark skin tones, consider using a blush with burgundy undertones and a chocolate-hued eyeshadow. Use deep red or plum lipstick, à la Beyonce.

So fun!

Another Spring trend in bridal makeup is the super-dramatic eye. If you choose to rock that look, just make sure you wear a neutral lipstick so your lips don't compete.

And remember, the last thing you want to do on your wedding day is wear a look that isn't "you." So however you decide to wear your makeup, make sure that what it really shows is who you are.

Styling an 'Old Hollywood' Wedding

Getting married, and need a little inspiration? Bustle Event Design is here to help. At least once a month, we're going to discuss an inspiration or theme for a wedding or event, and offer some ideas to help you with the details. First up: an "old hollywood" themed wedding.

The dress: Here's an incredibly glamorous dress from designer Elizabeth Fillmore.

The draped neckline is beautiful, the silhouette is sexy without being overbearingly so, and the ruffles down the back of the dress give it just the right amount of romance. Add some chandelier earrings, red lipstick, and you're set.

The hair: Charlize Theron's Hollywood waves would be an excellent complement to a dress like the one shown above. InStyle.com even gives you the how-to! If you've got longer hair, gentle waves and a faux bob might be a perfect 'do.

Color scheme: First find something to use as an inspiration piece. For an "old Hollywood" theme, keep it simple and classic. If you're stuck, browse around a fabric store and ask for swatches of fabrics you like. Black and white with hints of red, silver, or gold can create plenty of drama if executed correctly.
Other details: Deep red roses, white gardenias, or calla lilies would be an excellent bouquet choice for both you and your bridesmaids. For centerpieces, something structural would not only save you money, but they'd also give your reception some extra glam. Check out this amazing tableware from Juliska:

You could copy this look on the cheap, using old tableware found at yard sales and spray-painting them black. Adding white candles would look lovely, or filling the different-sized bowls with decorative mirrored balls would be fun too. Then, with your wedding guests dressed to the nines and sipping champagne, your wedding and reception will get rave reviews!

Sweet Wedding Hair

When I saw this picture over on WeddingBeePro's blog about "Lovely Hair", I just had to share:

I love how her hair is softly wavy and tied up in a simple, sweet bow. And it's not "perfect" - see the bumps?? I think this adds to the prettiness of the hairdo. This style would be so fitting for a casual outdoor picnic or beach wedding. Or even for a formal wedding - I'm not a huge fan of saying "this style is perfect for this, but not that" - it's your wedding and if you want to wear this style to a formal wedding, then DO IT!

Here are some other related styles that I love (all found on Brides.com's hair style picture gallery):

I love this bride's curly, wispy hair - and her fabulous double-stranded headband. You can find a similar hair accessory over on the Handmade Lovelies Etsy shop!

Again, I ADORE these loose waves! If only my hair would stay curled, I could one day achieve this look... but for those of you whose hair does hold a curl - this would be a super-sweet wedding hair style and I'm insanely jealous that you have the option to wear your hair like this. :)
Here's one more for all of you short-hair brides:

How great is that fascinator?! What a perfect hair accessory.

Grooming the Groom

Some guys are into skincare, some could care less. My husband would fall into the "could care less" category. He washes his face with whatever soap is in the shower (or my facewash if it's within arm's reach), shaves his face with the cheapest shaving foam he can find at CVS, and definitely doesn't think to put on suncreen when he's outside.

Side-note to TR: Love you!!! You know this is all true! xoxo

On the flip-side, there are some guys that pay attention to what they use on their face. My friend Ashley and her husband Chris are pictured below, and Chris appreciates a well-developed men's skincare line of products (just look at that clear skin!).

Chris "swears by" the Anthony skincare line, which conveniently offers a "Here Comes the Groomed Kit"! This $50 gift would be perfect for a bride to give her groom, or for the groom to give his groomsmen.

Thanks, Chris, for the tip!

Wedding Hairstyles

One of the things that really stressed me out while preparing for my wedding was my hairstyle. I'm picky about my hair and feel like I can do up-do's better than half of the stylists that have tried to do my hair, but the LAST thing I wanted to do on my wedding day was wig out about doing my own hair. So the solution: I hired a hairstylist. I went through TWO different trial up do's with the same stylist and took countless pictures of the trial up do from every possibly angle to make sure we were on the same page, and eventually ended up with a fabulous up do that was easy to recreate on my wedding day!

The key word - EASY. Total Beauty has posted an article called Picture Perfect Bridal Hair and each style is shown with how-to steps. These styles should be easy enough for you or your stylist to whip up in minutes!!

Here's one of my faves:
