You can tell it’s an engagement ring, but there’s a certain tailored masculinity to it that makes it very unlike a typical women’s engagement ring.

I believe this ring is geared more towards same-sex male partners rather than opposite-sex partners. I thought when I read the article that they were saying they wanted to give same-sex partners the same joy that opposite-sex partners have when they get engaged.

In the article referenced, it does talk about how women are starting to buy their fiances "man-gagement" rings to wear during their engagement (since women wear engagement rings for the entire engagement, why shouldn't a man wear one, too?), so I think this could apply to both same-sex and opposite-sex couples.
