Wedding Movies We Love

Don't you just love wedding movies? The dresses, the romance, the drama! Next time you're in the mood to watch a chick flick, check out our list of favorite wedding movies and indulge yourself.

Father of the Bride (starring Steve Martin, Diane Keaton, & Kimberly Williams-Paisley, 1991). LOVE the custom-made sneakers under the wedding dress!

My Big Fat Greek Wedding (starring Nia Vardalos and John Corbett, 2002). One of my favorite romantic quotes came from this movie: "I came alive when I met you." Sigh...

27 Dresses (starring Katherine Heigl and James Marsden, 2008). Who doesn't love the scene where Jane (Heigl's character) tries on every one of her ridiculous bridesmaid dresses?!

My Best Friend's Wedding (starring Julia Roberts, Durmot Mulroney, and Rupert Everett, 1997). "Each morning I wake up... Before I put on my makeup... I say a little prayer for you!" Enough said.

The Wedding Singer (starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, 1998). Can't go wrong with an '80s style Adam Sandler singing his heart out to Billy Idol and Madonna.

Wedding Crashers (starring Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson, 2005). While not the most romantic of wedding movies, I can't resist these guys as they charm the pants (and dresses) off everyone in sight!

The Wedding Planner (starring Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey, 2001). I think the Tango scene is my favorite! That Matthew McConaughey can dance.

Bride Wars (starring Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway, 2009). These girls take the term "bridezilla" to a whole new - and hilarious - level.

Made of Honor (starring Patrick Dempsey and Michelle Monaghan, 2008). I'll watch "McDreamy" battle it out for true love against a handsome Scottish bloke anytime.

Runaway Bride (starring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts, 1999). If disarmingly handsome Richard Gere can't convince Julia Roberts's character to get married, it must not be humanly possible.

Free Typefaces for DIY Projects

I have always been kind of obsessed with typefaces (most people call them "fonts", but my graphic designer husband always cringes when I say the "f" word, so I'm trying to train myself to use "typeface" instead...).

Example: When I was in high school or college and I had to write a paper, I would spend a good 15 minutes highlighting everything I wrote and changing the typeface a million times, just so I could see what my paper would look like in each style.

I really like "Tahoma"... or maybe "Georgia" looks better... but to be safe, maybe I should just change it back to "Times New Roman"...

Fast forward a few years and I STILL DO THIS on a regular basis. Choosing my default typeface for my e-mail messages in Outlook is like a 2-hour task! :)

If any of you are like me - you know who you are (you're probably the same person that pilfers cool pens at the doctor's office) - you will LOVE the many many FREE typeface options over at DaFont.com.

I am sharing this on the Bustle Blog because you might be undertaking a DIY wedding project that involves words of some sort and you might be looking for a non-standard typeface to use that tells your guests, "Maybe she hired a designer to create this..." A non-Microsoft-Word typeface gives your program/invitation/place cards a more custom look & feel. And they are FREE! It can't get any better than that.

Here are my favorite typefaces from DaFont.com:

Honey Script (for obvious reasons!)

Chopin Script (Sweet & romantic...)

Outlaw (How great at a western/country-themed wedding?!)

Type Keys (Super-cute if you are using a typewriter or typewriter keys anywhere at your wedding!)

My advice is to head on over to DaFont.com and check out all of the categories of typefaces - you can even type in a word (like I did with "Bustle") or phrase so you can "test" how it will look for whatever project you are working on. Have fun!!

UPDATE: My husband schooled me a little bit on what NOT to use these free fonts for. He said that although you can definitely use them to make one/a few words stand out, they should not be used for lots of text (i.e. a long quote, directions, etc). The reason is because most of the font designers over on DaFont.com are not professional designers and don't give consideration to the spacing between letters and other technical things that only a true preofessional would know how/take the time to do. AND, can you imagine how difficult/annoying it would be to read a paragraph of Type Keys (above)??? :)

Bottom Line: Use these special fonts sparingly to make key words stand out. Stick to standard, professionally-designed fonts for longer phrases/paragraphs. Got it? Good.

Photofetti!!

This idea from Martha Stewart makes me so happy (as do most of her ideas). Photofetti! It's circular confetti with pictures on both sides, mixed in with colored confetti in the colors of your choice. Martha suggests sprinkling the confetti on reception tables to act as conversation-starters for your guests...

The Photofetti website also lists some other creative uses such as:
  • Sprinkled in invitations (engagement or baby photo confetti!)
  • Sprinkled in thank yous (wedding photo confetti!)
  • Included in scrapbooks
  • Tossed on the bride & groom

I'd like to add that this type of decorative accent would be perfect for bridal showers, too!

You can upload your photos on the Photofetti website and they are currently offering free shipping on certain quantities. I'm definitely bookmarking this site!

Night Sky Lanterns

As many of you know, I Twitter. And because I Twitter, I was lucky enough to find and follow Ian McGraw: co-owner (with his wife) of Veil & Train, which offers wedding photography, bridal makeup, bridal hair & personal training; based out of London, England. Take a second to view their blog and website!

Anywho, last week, Veil & Train posted about Night Sky Lanterns on their blog and I was completely blown away! I will let this picture describe what Night Sky Lanterns look like:

The lanterns are environmentally friendly (friendlier than fireworks!!) and are made of biodegradeable materials (don't believe me? check this FAQ for more info). Once released, the lanterns will fly for about 5-10 minutes, creating a BEAUTIFUL photo op in the night sky!!!
You could ask guests to write wishes for the bride & groom on the lanterns & then release them to the sky at the end of the night. I wish I could have done this for our wedding!
To purchase, visit Sky Lanterns 2U's online store. The white lanterns are most popular, and you can purchase 100 for 151 GBP (United Kingdom Pounds), or about $223 USD (based on today's exchange rate).

Red Lips + My Wedding Dress!

I don't normally post about ME on the Bustle Blog, but I had to showcase the makeup artistry & photography of two vendors who made this Trash the Dress session possible!

NaShara from Bridal Beauty by Blush asked me if I'd be a model for an upcoming Trash the Dress shoot, where she would do the makeup and Jessica from Lemongrass Photography (who has now seen me in my wedding dress 3 different times!) would provide the photography. Of course, I said yes! I love any excuse to wear my wedding dress again (although this time, I was a little scared it wouldn't FIT)!

{All pictures in this post are credited to Lemongrass Photography}

NaShara thought I would look good with a bright red lip. I was kinda scared to go so bright, but I think it looks good in the pictures! Always trust the professionals!

We took pictures downtown at Military Park, outside the historical society & then made our way up to the IMA...

When we got to the IMA, NaShara decided to tone down the red lip and switch to a more pink/purple gloss, which was also very pretty.

There was also another bride (also named Jessica) at the photoshoot, and coincidentally, we showed up with the SAME EXACT WEDDING DRESS!!! How crazy is that?!

Anyways, I had a fabulous time and it was nice to know that my dress still fit!! :)

xoxo

Now Accepting PayPal & Credit Cards!

Attention!!!

Bustle Event Design
now accepts PayPal & all major credit cards!

Solution Graphics

So often I'm stuck with just my credit card or debit card to make purchases, and if a store doesn't accept credit/debit cards, I'm often forced to skip the purchase. To make it easier for my clients to book services with me and provide a secure transaction environment, I have created a business account through PayPal.

Here's how the payment process will go:
  1. You (the client) tell me you want to book Bustle Event Design for your event.
  2. I (Bustle Event Design) will e-mail you an invoice for the deposit amount of the service you would like to book.
  3. You pay the deposit with your credit/debit card or PayPal account.
  4. I mark my calendar for your wedding/event!
  5. I will send you another invoice for the remaining balance.
  6. You pay the remaining balance before your wedding date.
Of course, you can still pay by cash or check, but I just had to let you know about this exciting, new, convenient online payment option!

Breakfast at Tiffany's

This past Sunday, I had the pleasure of attending Tiffany & Co's "Breakfast at Tiffany's" event. It was an intimate gathering of guests who were interested in learning more about the 4 C's ~ cut, color, carat & clarity... plus Tiffany's own definition of "presence".

My friends Ashley & Allison and I arrived at the store while the rest of the mall was still closed, we were greeted by a Tiffany employee, ushered inside the store to dine on some fine pastries & juice, listened to a non-boring explanation of Tiffany's history (did you know Tiffany's was in business when Abraham Lincoln was president??) & then were allowed to try on the most GORGEOUS baubles in the engagement ring case!

Here's one I really liked (and probably the ONLY one I could hope of getting in the near future - $4k):

{Tiffany Three Stone Circlet}

We learned about the "Tiffany setting", the company's strict diamond standards (any diamond with a black inclusion, chip, laser drill hole or surface inclusion is rejected), and the precision cut to maximize the diamonds brilliance. Here's the classic Tiffany ring:

{The Tiffany Setting}

Unfortunately, I was not allowed to take pictures while inside the store, so here are some of us after we left the event:

{Me - showing off my gift bag... it was full of Tiffany catalogs & even a sample of Tiffany perfume!}

I received an e-mail about this today, and thought I should pass it along to those of you who are actually getting married (Savor this time, brides & grooms! You'll never be the target of these deals again - hopefully!).

Because It's Friday...

Here's something fun... not really bridal-related, but I love taking these silly quizzes. :) I actually think my results are right-on!

What's your color?

you are aquamarine
#7FFFD4

Your dominant hues are cyan and green. Although you definately strive to be logical you care about people and know there's a time and place for thinking emotionally. Your head rules most things but your heart rules others, and getting them to meet in the middle takes a lot of your energy some days.

Your saturation level is medium - You're not the most decisive go-getter, but you can get a job done when it's required of you. You probably don't think the world can change for you and don't want to spend too much effort trying to force it.

Your outlook on life is very bright. You are sunny and optimistic about life and others find it very encouraging, but remember to tone it down if you sense irritation.

BTW, if you need any help designing your invitations, programs, table numbers, place cards, Bustle Event Design can arrange the services of a graphic designer. ;)

Custom Kleenex Boxes

I'm afraid I haven't been able to think of witty titles for my blog posts lately... so I've turned to writing the most literal titles ever. This post is no exception.

As I was catching up on my Google Reader "wedding-related" blogs, I noticed a post on Weddingbee by Miss Fondue about bathroom baskets/trays.

[SIDE NOTE: At my wedding, my mom LOVED the task of putting together girl & guy versions of "the bathroom basket". She literally called all of her friends and asked, "If you were a guy/girl at a wedding reception, what might you possibly need that I can put in this bathroom basket??" Tip ~ Consider only making a bathroom basket for the girls. Hairspray, bobby pins & tampons (must-haves for the girl basket) are much more likely to be used than anything you could think of putting in the guy basket.]

I digress. Miss Fondue included a custom box of Kleenex tissues on her "bathroom tray" - complete with damask pattern, their names & wedding date! How fun! How do you make custom Kleenex boxes, you ask?

Here's a mock-up of one I whipped up in about 5 minutes:

Only $4.99 + shipping!
I'm totally decking out my office with some custom Kleenex boxes after Christmas is over!

Just For Fun!

I recently discovered Wordle, and I think it is so fun! Just look at what I created:

{picture source}

Here's what you do to create your own Wordle image:

Find a bunch of words, names, lyrics, etc, that you'd like to include in your image. Type or paste these words in the box and hit Go. It's that simple! If you'd like certain words to be larger than other words, type those words more than once. I think I typed the words "wedding" and "planner" about 6 times to get them to be bigger than the other words. Play around and find what works for you.

After you click Go, you can see your words in image form and modify them some more. Choose a font ~ I like "Superclarendon Rg" (it's a classic; not the font I used in the picture above ~ that would be "Sexsmith"). Would you like the words to appear vertically, horizontally, half & half? Alphabetized? You can create a color palette (maybe plug in your wedding colors...???) or use one of their pre-made palettes. [NOTE: If you create a color palette and you only want those colors to be used, make sure you choose "Exact Color Palette", or else Wordle will display colors similar to the ones you picked out and not the exact colors.]

There you have it! Now go waste some time playing with Wordle! :)
