Pulling Off Pink

Once upon a time I promised you, dear readers, a monthly blog post on how to style a wedding around a particular inspiration or theme. Well... suffice it to say, that didn't happen. So this time around, I make no promises. But I do have an inspiration board ready for you! Feast your eyes on what I've dubbed "Pulling Off Pink."

To be honest I'm not a lover of pink so this was a challenge for me. But I like the idea of using pink with a vintage and/or modern twist. For example, aren't those Jackie O. style bridesmaid dresses to-die-for? And those pink chair covers are so romantic. I really like the idea of hanging chandeliers everywhere, and maybe accenting your pink with blue, yellow, black & white, or gray. Especially gray!

Of course, you can also use pink in your invitations, table signs & centerpieces, escort cards, the groom's & groomsmen's ties, and more. As always, the possibilities are as limitless as your imagination. If you have any unique "pink" ideas to share, let us know in the comments!

It's in the Details: A Valentine's Day Wedding

A discussion on our theme of the month: a Valentine's Day wedding. This seems obvious considering it's February, but we want to help style your V-Day wedding without going overboard. So, here's a little inspiration!

Invitations - We found these on trulymadlydeeply.com. Very romantic!

Attire - Check out the bridesmaid dresses we found from designer Lynn Lugo. The bold hues will liven things up, and you could even have your bridesmaids select their own style. As for your wedding dress - the more whimsical, the better.

Food & Beverages - A champagne toast is a classy way to start or end the night, and as party favors you could give your guests customized chocolate bars. (Who doesn't love chocolate on Valentine's Day?) For the cake, consider something simple and let your theme come through in the details, like a sprinkling of pink and red roses.

The Event - You could go all out with pink everywhere, or you could have a more muted color palette and bring out your theme with finishing touches like centerpieces, napkins, and place cards. As long as you don't hang a cardboard flying Cupid from the ceiling, you're set!

Color Palette: Blues & Reds

I am in love with this color palette right now! Aqua and grey-ish blues + poppy and tulip reds = fabulous color scheme for your wedding.

Teal & Forest Green

The latest Martha Stewart Living magazine contains a segment on holiday wreaths. While flipping through the pages of this segment, I flipped right past this picture:

At first glance, I didn't think much of this picture, and I'm not sure why. But over the last week or so, whenever I close my eyes, I envision this festive winter-y doorway! Call me crazy, but this color palette has totally struck me and I am now completely enamored with teal & forest green hues.

The colors are just a smidge apart in the color spectrum, which makes them perfectly complimentary to one another. The stark contrast of the white door frame, makes the door & wreaths really pop.

Just think of how amazing a color palette of teal + forest green + white or cream would be! Sophisticated, yet current.

Using the DeGraeve color palette generator, I created this palette:

Beware! This is another tool you could mess with all day!
Anyways, you could bring this palette with you when picking out bridesmaid dresses, flowers, linens, invitations... I could go on and on, but I won't!

Mint & Chocolate? Canary and Robin's Egg Blue?

What are your colors?

You'll get this question many times as a bride, and if you're like me, you'll respond: "Just a sec, I have the swatches right here in my purse!" :)

Or if you are like normal people, you'll respond: "Our colors are [color #1] and [color #2]... " Then you might look around at your immediate surroundings, hoping to find an object colored similarly to your particular shades so you can more specifically describe the exact hues.

Nevertheless, people are truly interested in a couple's wedding colors. Your colors set the tone for your wedding and can be a reflection of your personality. Like I said before, my colors were bright pink (Lynn Lugo's "Watermelon" silk shantung fabric swatch to be exact) and chocolate brown. I'd like to think our color choices conveyed a bit of whimsy, playfulness, friendliness and a tad of unconventionality (we felt that brown tuxes were our way of deviating from the norm... we live on the edge, I know...) to our wedding.

Sooo... What are your colors?

If you're still in the color-deciding phase, try this tool: Brides.com's ColorStudio.
